A donkey understands nothing but beatings, but a woman, a man, a child, and so on, are generally more affected by emotions than by other things. If you beat her with a toothpick, or if you beat her lightly with your hand, and so on, it is meant to convey: “Woman, it has gone too far. I can’t bear it anymore.” If he beats her, the beatings must be light and must not make her face ugly. He must beat her where it will not leave marks. He should not beat her on the hand... He should beat her in some places where it will not cause any damage. He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child - slapping them right and left. Unfortunately, many husbands beat their wives only when they get mad, and when they start beating, it as if they are punching a wall – they beat with their hands, right and left, and sometimes use their feet. BAGHDAD (AFP) — Abu Mohammed has been a Baghdad taxi driver for almost half a century. At 64, the strongly built Shiite is a veteran who had a brand new Dodge nearly 50 years ago but is now happy with a battered old Toyota.

His has been one of the riskiest ways to earn a living in a city wracked by brutal sectarian violence over the past two years.

Bomb blasts and gun battles had become routine in this capital of about five million people as insurgents and sectarian militias brought terror to its streets and alleyways.

But now Mohammed feels that security in Baghdad has improved.

"I can drive anywhere now," he tells an AFP reporter in a taxi that stinks of petrol. And every time Mohammed hits the brakes, the entire rear seat lurches forward towards the front.

ISLAMABAD: Opposition politician and former cricketer Imran Khan said Saturday that President Pervez Musharraf has committed treason and should face the death penalty for declaring a state of emergency.

Imran Khan also called on the Pakistani people to resist Musharraf’s move and not to recognise the new chief justice appointed by the military ruler.

“He has committed high treason by negating the orders of the Supreme Court which bars him from taking any unconstitutional steps and by sending in troops after the Supreme Court decision,” Khan was quoted as saying.

“He is punishable by death.”

He continued to say, “I urge every Pakistani people not to recognise this collaborator chief justice.

“I urge the people, lawyers, civil society to resist this move by Musharraf. I urge lawyers to boycott the court proceedings.”

Pakistan’s former premier Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that the country was in the middle of crisis adding that the decision to impose an emergency is unprecedented.

?In the past prime minister and the parliament were targets of martial law but now the Supreme Court is the target,? Sharif told Geo News on telephone from Saudi Arabia.

“The decision to impose an emergency is unprecedented. Never in history has such treatment been meted out to judges,” Nawaz Sharif said.

RIYADH - Saudi Arabia yesterday executed an Egyptian man convicted of "sorcery," desecrating the Muslim holy book and adultery, the official news agency said.

The Saudi Press Agency said Mustafa Ibrahim was put to death in Riyadh in a controversial case which has drawn criticism from rights activists.

It said Mr. Ibrahim had been accused by another foreign resident of practising magic in order to separate him from his wife and said evidence had been found in his home, including books on black magic, a candle with an incantation "to summon devils" and "foul-smelling herbs."

"He confessed to adultery with a woman and desecrating the Koran by placing it in the bathroom," the agency said.

Dr Naseem then referred to a think tank report that had stated "Researchers found radical or hate-filled books and pamphlets at a quarter of the 100 Islamic religious institutions they visited." Dr Naseem then posed the question "Who is the author of this literature?" and he pointed out that Mosques are public places, where anyone can walk in and leave material. He referred to a previous incident at his own Mosque where a woman had left some CDs on the table and that these were found to contain inflammatory material. When the material was viewed, it was found that an organisation was mentioned and so this information was promptly passed to the Police, but no action was taken.

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency on Saturday, saying that judges were interfering with the government and that Islamic militancy posed a grave threat to the country.

Paramilitary troops and police surrounded the Supreme Court in Islamabad, which had been due in coming days to give a verdict on the legality of military ruler Musharraf's victory in an October 6 presidential election.

The supreme court ordered the suspension of emergency rule, private television reported, but the government rejected the move.

All land and mobile telephone lines went down shortly after the declaration while private television channels were taken off the air as tension gripped the normally placid capital.

Musharraf, a key US ally who seized power in a coup in 1999, may now also delay general elections due in January, which were seen as a key step in moving nuclear-armed Pakistan towards full civilian democracy.

"Most realize that public property, owned by the taxpayers, cannot be used by Christians for religious displays or implements of their religiosity. Then, the question amongst them becomes: Why can it be used for Muslims?"

Al-Qaida's No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri harshly criticized Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in a new audio tape Saturday, accusing him of being an enemy of Islam and threatening a wave of attacks against the North African country because it improved relations with the United States.

In the 28-minute audio tape called "Unity of the Ranks," al-Zawahri also announced that the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group was joining ranks with al-Qaida.

"The Islamic nation is witnessing a blessed step ... The brothers are escalating the confrontation against the enemies of Islam: Gadhafi and his masters, the Washington crusaders," al-Zawahri said in the audio tape. The recording could not be independently verified, but it appeared on a Web site commonly used by insurgents and carried the logo of al-Qaida's media production house, as-Sahab.

The recording also carried a message Abu Laith al-Libi, a Libyan al-Qaida commander in Afghanistan who accused Gadhafi of decades of tyranny.

"He is the tyranny of Libya and is dragging the country to the swamp," al-Libi said in the recording that also featured old video footage of him walking with other masked gunmen.

A group sympathetic to the goals of militant Muslims has called for support in attacking financial Web sites and services on November 11, according to a security firm and an Israeli news site.

The would-be attackers plan to use a program, dubbed Electronic Jihad 2.0 by its creators, to level denial-of-service attacks against unnamed sites, according to security firm Secure Computing. While older versions of the attack program required users to manually input the targets, the latest version allows a central server to control who is attacked, said Paul Henry, vice president of Secure Computing.

Henry likened the network of systems created by the program to a "manual botnet."

"If you look at the translated site, they are talking about causing financial harm, so I assume they are talking about financial sites," Henry said. "Before it was primarily Israeli sites -- now they have claimed they are going after Western interests."

Whether the call for an electronic jihad is credible remains a significant question. The invitation to attack Web sites -- first reported by Israeli muckraking news site DEBKAfile -- would not the first time that bot masters have attacked networks for political reasons. In May, Russian hackers attacked government sites in Estonia, hobbling much of the northern European nation's network. However, past calls for electronic jihad have mostly lacked muscle: In 2004, a similar call failed to generate any threat, while news of another religious-inspired attack in 2003 turned out to be a hoax.

A member of the U.S. Secret Service had sent the public report of the attack to the Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force mailing list, said Secure Computing's Henry. However, a Secret Service spokesman would not comment on how seriously the security service was taking the report.

The DEBKAFile article stated that the group calling for electronic jihad claimed links to Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, but produced no evidence that such a link exists.

SARGODHA, Pakistan, Nov 1 (Reuters) - A suicide bomber rammed an Air Force bus in Pakistan on Thursday killing 8 people while troops killed up to 70 militants in the northwest, as rumours swirled President Pervez Musharraf could invoke emergency rule.

Nearly 800 people have been killed in militant-linked violence and there have been more than 22 suicide attacks in the last four months, heightening concerns about the stability of nuclear-armed Pakistan at a time when U.S. ally General Musharraf is trying to engineer a transition to civilian-led democracy.

The second suicide attack this week targeted a bus taking personnel to an air base in Sargodha in the central province of Punjab, the military said.

"Eight people have been killed including four officers," military spokesman Major-General Waheed Arshad said, adding civilians were among those killed. An air force statement said 27 people were wounded.

An international organization supporting Christian minorities in Islamic societies has launched a new campaign to draw attention to the plight of Iraq's Christians, a community which it says "faces extinction."

The U.K.-based Barnabas Fund, a charitable and advocacy group, said this week that Islamic extremists in Iraq are telling Christians to convert, leave or face death.

"The militants are well on the way to succeeding in their aim, at least in the south and central areas, as Christians flee the restrictions, threats and violence imposed on them."

Iraq's Christians -- who include Chaldean Catholics, Assyrians, Orthodox Syriacs, Catholic and Orthodox Armenians, and Protestants -- are mostly non-Arabs who trace their origins to the ancient Assyrian empire.

Members of one of the world's oldest Christian communities, they have over the centuries survived persecution and ill-treatment at the hands of Muslim Arabs, Kurds, Turks and Mongols, the Barnabas Fund said.

The Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council has underlined that Iraq can counter hegemonic purposes of foreign forces via unity in the country.

A man has pleaded guilty to to conspiring to provide weapons to a group of men accused of plotting an attack at the Fort Dix U.S. Army base in New Jersey.

Agron Abdullahu, an ethnic Albanian born in the Serbian province of Kosovo, faces up to five years in federal prison when he is sentenced Feb. 6. Since his arrest, he has been held in isolation at a federal detention center in Philadelphia.

Federal prosecutors have portrayed Abdullahu, a 25-year-old bakery worker, as having the smallest role among the six men arrested earlier this year in the Fort Dix case. Abdullahu was charged only with weapons offenses. The others — three ethnic Albanians from the former Yugoslavia, a Jordanian and a Turk — are charged with conspiring to kill military personnel — a crime punishable by life in prison.

He is the first of the men to be convicted in the alleged planned attack on the military installation.

Teachers at a primary school have been ordered to dress up as Muslims to promote multi-culturalism.

The West Midlands school is belatedly celebrating the Muslim festival of Eid and told its pupils and teachers to don traditional Muslim dress for the day.

All 257 pupils, most of whom are Christians, and 41 teachers - two of whom are Muslims - dressed up.

Sally Bloomer, head of Rufford primary school in Lye, West Midlands, told The Sun: "I have not heard of any complaints. It's all part of a diversity project to promote multi-culturalism."

But a relative of one of the staff reportedly said: "Who would put their job on the line? They have been told they have to embrace the day to show their diversity. But they are not all happy."

In my area there are many Muslim women wearing hijab as well as Muslim men that come into local stores and buy up as much baby formula as they can. They usually travel in pairs and there is around 10 of them that come in. All they buy is baby formula and its different kinds. Instead of just one kind of formula which is what you give your child. You dont give your child 3 different kinds of formula. I have no idea what they are doing with the formula. All I know is that it probably is not good. They usually park far out in parking lots of the stores so cameras cant see their license plates. Once I saw one that had the trunk open and they must of had over 100 cans of baby formula. They usually come into each store 5 to 6 times a week to buy baby formula. That is the only item they ever purchase. I have heard that baby formula can be cut with drugs to make it look like there is more. I am not sure if this is what they are doing or not. But their activity is very suspicious and I have found that this is not an uncommon thing. I even found this article about a group of arabs that were put on trial for funding terrorism by selling stock piles of formula. Also this story tells of Arabs stealing formula and selling it to local convince stores.
The Christian Science Monitor even had an article about baby formula funding terrorism. The New York Post reports 2 Muslim men were put on trial for selling baby formula on the black market and not reporting it to the IRS.

Considering all this it is amazing to me I have seen virtual no coverage of this. Nor any real investigation into this. If anyone has any personal stories of this type of activity in their area please contact me. Further my question is what is a concerned citizen like me or anyone else supposed to do when we see this type of suspicious activity? How does one get the attention of Homeland Security or the FBI on this subject?

Jihadist have celebrated the fires in California. The Fbi warned fire stations in California that there maybe surveillance photos taken of their stations. Then 2 middle eastern men were seen outside of a station taking pictures days before the fire. WASHINGTON – While websites frequented by jihadis have been ablaze with claims of responsibility for setting the California wildfires, terror leaders also urged arson attacks as a tactic last summer, according to a new report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

In July, a post was made to numerous jihadist boards and then spread to a number of blogs citing a previously issued fatwa authorizing the setting of forest fires as a weapon of jihad. The post began "this is an invitation to the Muslims of Europe and America, Australia and Russia to burn forests." It went on to state the justification under Islamic Sharia law for this action and to cite its benefits for jihadists.

The post, revealed in G2 Bulletin's report, cites an undated video that shows Abu Mus'ab al Suri, author of "Call to Global Islamic Resistance" and advocate of the doctrine of individual terrorism, discussing the benefits to the jihad of setting forest fires.

Last year, the report points out, Maj. Robert Arthur Baird of the U.S. Marine Corps wrote in the May 2006 issue of Studies in Conflict and Terrorism: "The United States is at significant risk of a future pyro-terrorist attack – when terrorists unleash the latent energy in the nation's forests to achieve the effect of a weapon of mass destruction – the threat, must be defined America's vulnerabilities understood and action taken to mitigate this danger to the United States."

In his master's thesis, Major Baird also discusses arson as a terror tactic and sees it as a very real risk: "Instead of using expensive, complex and readily detectable nuclear or radiological bombs, a terrorist could easily ignite several massive wildfires to severely damage regional economies, impact military and firefighting forces and terrorize the American people."

It is a great principle in Islam: No enforcement to follow a certain religion. Religion is a choice. Three Iranian students from the University of Toledo came to me and asked, “What type of religion are you preaching here?” It was in the days following the new revolution of Ayatullah Ruhollah Khomeini and the young Iranian men at that time thought that they were in control of the whole world. I didn’t blame them because when Gamal Abdel Nasser became the President following the revolution in Egypt in 1952, I myself thought, being a young man at the time, that we were going to conquer all the world. In the same manner these young men were taken by the revolution of Khomeni. I asked them what type of Islam they wanted us to preach here? They said “Bring any kafir and order him to say Ashhadu Allah ilaha illalLah wa ashhadu- unna Muhammad-an 'abdu-hu wa rasool-lu hu and if he refuses, chop his head off.” This was the thinking of some people in Toledo.

You cannot demand that a non-Muslim people who were defeated in war must convert to Islam. They may “desist” but not convert to Islam because the next verse says, “And if a mushrikeen wants to become your neighbor then grant him protection and afterwards escort him to his home to make sure he reaches safely.” So, he is free to accept Islam or not.

To summarize he says that there were Muslims at the Toledo mosque that believed if someone didn't accept Islam chop their head off. But the imam disagreed with this. The imam believed that if a Muslim army conquered a non-Muslim land that non-Muslims were safe as long as they submitted to Islamic law. The imam says they do not have to convert but simply live under Islamic law. Now isn't that comforting :)

Due to the Radical Islamic teaching in UK mosques this group has been setup to create a "rule book" for mosques. What kind of things would they be doing to help do away with all the hate being taught in the mosques? This is what the article from the Guradian says:

The draft constitution for the regulatory body, released yesterday after months of internal consultation, proposes increasing the skills and competencies of imams, developing mosques as centres of community cohesion, citizenship and dialogue and strengthening accountability and governance. It also proposes improving access of women and young people to mosques. The new body, according to its constitution, would also provide advice on the suitability of imams and scholars coming from abroad.

No where in this article does it mention what they will do about the teaching of jihad warfare or about the teaching of hatred of jews and Christians in these mosques. So what they will give women more access to the mosque! How will that help with radical teaching?

Extremist literature that encourages hatred of gays, Christians and Jews can be easily found at many of Britain's mosques, according to a new survey.

Researchers for the centre-Right think tank Policy Exchange claims it found the literature in a quarter of the 100 mosques and Islamic institutions they visited.

Many of the publications allegedly called on British Muslims to segregate themselves from non-Muslims and for unbelievers to be treated as second-class citizens wherever possible.

The literature also allegedly contained repeated calls for gays to be thrown from mountains and tall buildings and for women to be subjugated.

Policy Exchange said that among the documents were the anti-Semitic forgery, The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, and other publications peddling bizarre conspiracy theories.

Anthony Browne, the director of Policy Exchange, said: "It is clearly intolerable that hate literature is peddled at some British mosques.

"I am sure the majority of moderate Muslims will be as horrified as everyone else that pamphlets advocating jihad by force, hatred for insufficiently observant Muslims, Christians and Jews, and segregationhave found their way into the UK's mosques."

BAKU, Azerbaijan — The National Security Ministry said Monday it had thwarted a radical Islamic group's plot to conduct a "large-scale, horrifying terror attack" against government structures and diplomatic missions in the Azerbaijan capital, Baku.

It said that one suspect was killed and several others were detained in a weekend sweep outside the capital.

The British Embassy in Baku closed temporarily and the U.S. Embassy scaled back its operations in response to the threat.

The ministry said in a statement that the radical Islamic group included an army lieutenant who had stolen 20 hand grenades, a machine gun, four assault rifles and ammunition from his military unit and made them available for the planned attack.

Security forces tracked down the group and arrested several of its members during a sweep Saturday in the village of Mastaga about 30 kilometers (20 miles) northeast of Baku. One member of the group offered resistance to the arrest and was killed, the statement said.

"That prevented a large-scale, horrifying terror attack that was being prepared by members of this group against several state structures in Baku and embassies and missions of the countries which are members of the international anti-terror coalition," the ministry said in a statement.

It added that a hunt for other members of the group was still under way.

National Security Ministry spokesman Arif Babayev told The Associated Press that the radical Islamic group had planned to launch a "terror attack against several government structures in Baku and the U.S. Embassy."

The U.S. Embassy sent out an announcement to U.S. citizens saying it had closed its consular office for an indefinite period because of a security threat and said it encouraged Americans to "maintain a high level of vigilance."

Police cars were parked outside the embassy.

The British Embassy closed completely on Monday, according to a receptionist in the Landmark building where the embassy is located. No one answered the phone at the embassy.

Several offices in the Landmark building also shut down operations Monday, including included Norway's StatoilHydro ASA and BP Azerbaijan, the receptionist said.

Amman - Jordan's largest political party the Islamic Action Front (IAF) on Monday urged the government to 'cancel' its peace treaty with Israel, saying the pact has had 'catastrophic' effects on the country both politically and economically.

'Obviously, this humiliating treaty has had catastrophic results for Jordan. It has blocked the country's political advancement and, contrary to what was promised, it caused its economy to retreat,' the IAF said in a statement marking the 13th anniversary of the peace pact between the two countries.

'Therefore, we urge the abrogation of this treaty,' the statement said. 'The relationship between our government and the enemy ... turned out to be no more than a political, economic and social tax paid by the Jordanian citizen.

Imam Ahmed Alzaree announced Monday, three days before he was to start work as the spiritual leader of the Islamic Center of Cleveland, that he was resigning.

Alzaree said allegations by bloggers that he was anti-Semitic and was associated with individuals suspected of having terrorist ties so poisoned the atmosphere in Northeast Ohio that he and his wife, Marwa, decided to look elsewhere.

“Cleveland now is a nightmare for her,” Alzaree said. “It will never be a good start for me and the Jewish community.

He’s being persecuted, you see. By intolerant people who just can’t understand why he would say something like this when the Americans weren’t watching:

School officials in a Virginia county neighboring Washington, D.C. are reviewing Arabic-language textbooks at a private Islamic school to see if it is espousing radical Islamic views following a federal panel's recommendation that the school be shut down.

School officials do not expect to find any problems with the textbooks at the Islamic Saudi Academy, but want to study the issue "to put the matter to rest," Fairfax County spokeswoman Merni Fitzgerald said Monday.

Earlier this month, a federal human rights panel recommended that the academy be shut down until a review was conducted. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom said in a report issued Oct. 17 that it had no direct evidence of a problem at the academy, but is concerned that the school closely mimics a typical Saudi education, which some critics say promotes intolerance against Christians, Jews and Shiite Muslims.

The academy, subsidized by the Saudi government, has nearly 1,000 students in grades K-12 at two campuses in Alexandria and Fairfax. The Alexandria site is leased from Fairfax County.

The school said it has modified its curriculum to remove problematic passages from the textbooks. The academy also said it would have provided copies of its textbooks to the federal commission if it had requested them. Commission officials have acknowledged that they did not approach the school directly to request a review of its textbooks.

BAGHDAD — A suicide bomber on a bicycle killed 28 Iraqi policemen doing their morning exercises at their base north of Baghdad on Monday, police said, in one of the deadliest strikes on security forces in months.

The bomber entered the base in the volatile Diyala province and blew himself up amidst members of a rapid reaction force, said Major-General Ghanim al-Quraishi, the Diyala police chief.

A shopkeeper whose store is close to the base told Reuters he had seen a man riding a bicycle slip through a gap in the concrete wall surrounding the compound and heard a huge blast seconds later that threw a cloud of dust into the air.

“I saw many bodies covered in blood. Some were dying, some had arms and legs blown off,” said store-owner Ali Shahine.

The Bush administration and New York cut a deal Saturday to create a new generation of super-secure driver's licenses for U.S. citizens, but also allow illegal immigrants to get a version.

New York is the fourth state to reach such an agreement on federally approved secure licenses, after Arizona, Vermont and Washington. The issue is pressing for border states, where new and tighter rules are soon to go into effect for crossings.

The deal comes about one month after New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced a plan whereby illegal immigrants with a valid foreign passport could obtain a license.

Saturday's agreement with the Homeland Security Department will create a three-tier license system in New York. It is the largest state to sign on so far to the government's post-Sept. 11 effort to make identification cards more secure.

Spitzer, who has faced much criticism on the issue, said the deal means New York "will usher in the most secure licensing system in the nation."

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said he was not happy that New York intended to issue IDs to illegal immigrants. But he said there was nothing he could do to stop it.

"I don't endorse giving licenses to people who are not here legally, but federal law does allow states to make that choice," Chertoff said.

"It's going to be a big deal up in Buffalo, it's going to be a big deal on the Canadian side of the border," Chertoff said.

The governor made clear he is going forward with his plan allowing licenses for illegal immigrants. But advocates on both sides of the debate said Spitzer had caved to pressure by adopting the administration's stance on tighter security standards for most driver's licenses.

GOP Rep. Thomas Reynolds, who represents the Buffalo suburbs, said he was glad Washington had heeded his concerns about border identification. But he said he feared that Spitzer "is taking this state down a risky path" by giving any kind of license to illegal immigrants.

Under the compromise, New York will produce an "enhanced driver's license" that will be as secure as a passport. It is intended for people who soon will need to meet such ID requirements, even for a short drive to Canada.

A second version of the license will meet new federal standards of the Real ID Act. That law is designed to make it much harder for illegal immigrants or would-be terrorists to obtain licenses.

A third type of license will be available to undocumented immigrants. Spitzer has said this ID will make the state more secure by bringing those people "out of the shadows" and into American society, and will lower auto insurance rates.

Those licenses will be clearly marked to show they are not valid federal ID. Officials, however, would not say whether that meant local law enforcement could use such a license as probable cause to detain someone they suspected of being in the U.S. illegally.

"Besides being a massive defeat for the governor, I can't imagine many _ if any _ illegal immigrants coming forward to get the driver's licenses, because they'd basically be labeled as illegal," said New York Rep. Peter King, the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee.

New York has between 500,000 and 1 million undocumented immigrants, many of whom are driving without a license and car insurance or with fake driver's licenses, Spitzer said in September when he announced his executive order.

The administration has not finalized standards for Real ID-compliant driver's licenses. Spitzer said he believed the new licenses would meet those standards or come very close.

Many states say it is too expensive to comply with the law; seven of them have passed legislation opposing Real ID. Neither the governor nor Chertoff would say how much it would cost to put the system in place or who would pay for it.

(IsraelNN.com) According to Italian news agency ANSAmed, Egyptian cleric Mohammed el-Mongui has issued a fatwa saying that Egyptian Muslim men cannot marry non-Muslim Israeli women. Muslim men are usually allowed and often encouraged to marry non-Muslim women.

Mongui explained that “all sheikhs and scholars” forbid marriage with non-Muslim Israeli women, as Israel requires women to enlist in the IDF, making them “enemies of Islam.” Any Muslim man marrying a Jewish or Christian woman from Israel “will be considered as a traitor and enemy of Islam and Muslims,” he said.
